CBT seller: what a cross-border trade seller is

A CBT (cross-border trade) seller is a merchant who lists on a marketplace in one country and ships from another, usually from China, the United States or Europe into Latin America.

Marketplaces (MercadoLibre, Amazon, Walmart) use the term to tell international sellers apart from local ones. The CBT seller lists in local currency and sells like any seller in that country; the marketplace or the logistics operator handles the international shipment.

The buyer usually sees a longer delivery window and, depending on the country, either taxes included in the price or taxes charged on arrival.
