Airline in logistics: its role in an e-commerce shipment

In cross-border logistics, the airline is the company that carries the consolidated load between airports under an AWB, and whose schedule and capacity define the departure frequency on each route.

The seller does not contract the airline: the logistics operator or its freight forwarder does, negotiating rates and booking space per route.

Flight frequency between origin and destination is one of the factors that most affects transit time. A route with a daily flight and one with two weekly departures behave very differently.

How Airline works in our operation

MailAmericas negotiates rates and space directly with airlines on its main routes and publishes departure frequencies by destination. The seller does not see that leg: it appears summarised in the transit time and the tracking events.

Frequently asked question

Can I choose which airline carries my parcel?

No. The operation assigns it by route, frequency and available capacity. What the seller chooses is the service and the delivery window.
