Simplified courier regime: how countries clear e-commerce parcels

The simplified or courier regime is the set of rules many countries apply to low-value, low-weight parcels so they clear with a summary declaration, a single or reduced tax and short lead times.

Each country sets its limits: a maximum value per parcel (for example USD 1,000 or USD 3,000), a maximum weight, and sometimes a number of shipments per person per year. Within those limits the parcel clears in hours; above them, it follows general clearance.

Brazil (Remessa Conforme), Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru and Argentina have regimes of this kind, with different rules and rates that also change often.

How Simplified courier regime works in our operation

MailAmericas clears e-commerce shipments under each destination's simplified regime and keeps the limits and rates by country up to date in the tables it shares with sellers. When a parcel exceeds the limits, it informs the seller before clearance.

Frequently asked question

What happens if my parcel exceeds the simplified regime's maximum value?

It clears under the general regime, with more documentation, longer lead times and, in some countries, a registered importer. It is better to split the order or check before selling.
