De minimis: the threshold below which no taxes are paid
De minimis is the maximum shipment value below which a country charges no import duties or taxes, or charges them at a reduced rate.
It is a threshold each country sets by law and that changes over time: the United States had it at USD 800 and removed it in 2025 for most origins; in Latin America several countries lowered it or replaced it with a flat rate.
For the seller, de minimis defines whether a low-value product can be sold without tax changing the final price. For the operator, it defines which parcels require tax assessment.

How De minimis works in our operation
MailAmericas states the current de minimis by destination in its tax tables and applies it at clearance. Since thresholds change often, the table carries an effective date and is updated with every regulatory change.
